SF streets are pretty disgusting. It's true that there's fecal matter everywhere you find homeless people, which is nearly everywhere in SF. It is not at all uncommon to find a big brownie right in the middle of the sidewalk. The streets and sidewalks in my tiny, obscure East coast village, OTOH, are as clean as they are in Singapore. I don't quite understand why SF doesn't do something about this, as it's a health hazard. Why don't the yuppies, hipsters, scenesters and other trendy rich people
Because in practice people don't clean up after themselves, especially in public places.
Observation to the contrary: availability of toilets does not fix "shitting on the streets" problem in SF.
Absolutely not. Getting rid of human waste is one of the most important issues in developing countries precisely because of the public health effects it has: transmitting pathogens, contaminating water supplies etc. It isn't hard to see that being the case in an Urban area like SF, especially since the density of people is so much greater.
This is not the first article about SF where i read about used needles and people defecating everywhere.Being from a third world country i have never seen human waste on the street. I think something is very wrong in SF.Also, earlier this week i read this [1] twitter thread from Casey Muratori on the topic, looks relevant.[1] https://twitter.com/cmuratori/status
san francisco people are used to shit everywhere, just shit on the street. like in india.
I hear you, that's why people dump shit in the street, or that's why people pee everywhere in the occidental world (very few public toilets).
Don't forget the poop on the streets.
Crazy idea: maybe feces and tents are littering your street because no one's helping them, rather than 'degeneracy'.
They probably didn't want the world to see people openly defecating on the streets.
