This cluster centers on discussions about integrating Rust into the Linux kernel, including debates on rewriting parts or the entire kernel in Rust, the current status of Rust for drivers and subsystems, and arguments for and against its adoption over C.

Not at all. (And that's actually the big reason why Rust is making its way to the Linux Kernel)

detaro Jul 6, 2021 View on HN

There is not a single comment saying the Linux kernel should be rewritten in Rust...

indeyets Oct 11, 2021 View on HN

There's previous discussion on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/rust/comments/pzo1v9/so_you_want_to... with important points

The kernel must adapt to Rust, not the other way around. Rust is the way!

It’s looking like the same fate awaits Rust in the linux kernel!

blastonico Jul 21, 2024 View on HN

Rust in Linux kernel is a bold statement. It's a PoC, nothing relevant is implement in it yet.

knowitnone Mar 22, 2025 View on HN

I agree, they should rewrite the kernel in Rust

rvz Oct 25, 2021 View on HN

Absolutely! But in Rust. Why do you think the Linux developers are bolting on Rust in the Linux kernel themselves? [0]It has already been admitted.[0] https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/20210704202756.29107-1-ojeda@ke...

Does Linux really need Rust? What's the point? Kernel code isn't really the main issue for security concerns. C is great.

Seems like a brilliant fit for introducing Rust to Linux kernel.
