You might want to look into Gnosticism, they had similar ideas about the state of the world.
This is more of a philosophical/spiritual question than a scientific/technological one.
What's with people recreating religion but making it more sciency this time. Explain the difference between a gnostic god and a sentient/conscious universe.
They already have that, it's called a cult, or some might say religion (I would, but that'll offend others).. I used to be religious (Mormon), now agnostic but still somewhat spiritual, I don't believe in a God, just that the universe could itself be one big consciousness, or even part of a bigger organism, etc... and I'm still inspired by people, my kids, the universe, technological accomplishments, etc... Same feels I got in religion, I get from watching a meteor shower now
Ah, pardon me, I googled "new age mysticism" and it seems off, what I had in mind was more so things like Eastern religions, and general ideas about the oneness of the individual with humanity and the universe, that sort of thing. All of your allegations, these we shall accept as fact without evidence I take it?
Not all religion is about 'believing' in gods and spirits. They are often used metaphorically to convey deeper ideas, e.g. In Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, and Sufism. The idea that all religion requires uncritical belief in gods and spirits is itself a false belief. What you stand to gain is to learn ideas about the experience of being human and the nature of the psyche. You do not have to start believing that mystical beings are real in order to benefit from the metaphor.

And the compelling reason for maybe choosing some sort of god or spiritual-type thing to worship–be it JC or Allah, be it YHWH or the Wiccan Mother Goddess, or the Four Noble Truths, or some inviolable set of ethical principles–is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive. If you worship money and things, if they are where you tap real meaning in life, then you will
Its not quite a religion yet. More like just a "faith".I always figured that religion was what happened after a particular metaphysics/philosophy came up with a guess about something unobservable through science and people started taking that guess seriously. It usually takes the form of making up a bunch of rules for everyone to follow to keep from angering a postulated deity, but not always. In this case you can observe this particular "faith" hatching in
