It’s not the death that is scary, it’s the Judgement Day that’ll come after. Because you don’t know whether you did enough good stuff to go straight to heaven, or first have to suffer in hell to account for your sins. Not all of us believe in a religion that says you are already forgiven and you’ll go to heaven, because God sent himself down to Earth to become His own son to sacrifice Himself to Himself to convince Himself to forgive you.
Depends on your religion and personal beliefs. Many people believe in redemption.
I think I disagree, I may be wrong, I usually am but here's what I think:-I have looked into christianity from an atheist's critique and I read that in christianity, if you did even a minor sin (which I guess everybody does, because nobody's perfect), then all you have to do is, is say that Jesus didn't die in vain and you can go to heaven because all sins are forgettable. This idea of all sins are forgettable is also in hinduism, with bathing in river ganga as well.T
How does dying absolve anyone of sin?
You should read up on Catholicism and the idea of original sin; I think it'll integrate well with your outlook.
If you genuinely believe that failure to believe in Christ means an eternity of punishment, anything that might feasibly turn off a potential believer - like an AI hallucination posing as a religious explanation - is fundamentally worse than murder.
Normally, I don't tend to get involved in HN talks about religion/Christianity, but I'm going to make an exception this time. As someone who is a Christian (I define as a "follower of Christ", not just as someone who follows some set of rules) I actually find the common misconception that "behaving badly" getting you thrown in Hell or "behaving well" gets you a ticket into Heaven to be one of the greatest, and saddest, misconceptions about what Christ
Eternal suffering awaits anyone who questions God's infinite love.
A lot of religious people I know would just say that god had his reasons and that's good enough. You don't need to understand why, the very core of religion is to believe that god "acts in misterious ways" and if something happened then it's because god wanted it to happen. Maybe those people have sinned. Maybe that's god's way to teach people a lesson. Or maybe it's something entirely else and we just don't know yet - you just need to trust that god
If there’s a hell you can always ask for forgiveness later though, and a lot of Christians believe that Christ died for our sins and they will be washed away if we acknowledge him.If you’re an utter psychopath who will always maximize benefit to themselves, then I don’t quite understand why you care about hell. It’s pretty easy to construct hypotheticals under which ethics are void, but I don’t think they tell us a lot about how we should live our lives as non-psychopaths with a sense of self
