Sounds like if you go to the apple store they will fix it or swap it again.

I guess it's just a gamble. I took mine in to an Apple Store in Newcastle UK with a minor problem - the case was creaking when pressed down. The staff were super friendly, they examined the laptop and decided the the entire bottom case and the battery has to be replaced - under warranty. I had to wait 3 days for the new case to arrive, brought my laptop in, it was ready the next day. Absolutely no issues and miles and miles above any service I have ever experienced from other brands.

Don't stop there. Try it again! Maybe at another shop or something. Mine got replaced a few months ago and it was more than 2 years old. Maybe I got lucky because of EU regulations but I think you might get lucky at another Apple shop.

You're mad that Apple replaced those under warranty, rather than, say, the issue happening past the warranty period or not being covered?

They have a 2 weeks no questions asked return policy. Apple store employees usually suggest buying a new one and then returning it once the repair is complete

This is correct. Not the first time Apple Care has screwed people.

Could you make a case in Apple store for replacement?

Happened to me... twice. Both time Apple replaced them quickly with no fuss.

Not defending indeed. I just had a frustrating experience where Apple refused to repair the 2 manufacturing defects on my MacBook Pro for free (which they said they would on their website [0] [1]), claiming there was corrosion found on the logic board. There is no option for only paying for the part they purportedly said you are responsible for. You have to pay for their malfunctioning parts if they say you should.[0] <a href="https://support.apple.com/en-hk/13-inch-macboo

This isn't unheard of. Call AppleCare and request to speak to a senior advisor and explain the situation. They should be able to see the inconsistencies in the repair and sort it out for you.
