My eyes get taxed wearing my glasses while reading and I usually take them off to see my monitors. I feel like this solution would make my eyes very taxed.

A random suggestion that may help: I switched my display to Greyscale recently, and have found it produces less strain.

The strain on my eyes is majorly caused by the lights shining into it. Dark mode helps, lower light emission helps. My eyes don't seem to strain so much keeping still...

Try bluring your vision or moving further away from your screen.

You might look into QLED, RLCD, or E-ink monitors. There’s a lot of posts online about how they reduce eye strain or that you just don’t feel the “glare” that you normally get from looking at a screen. I use a QLED monitor for programming and an e-ink monitor for reading papers / anything static, and it makes a big difference. But, they’re expensive. I wouldn’t do it if I weren’t in software and looking at a screen constantly.

Do you wear glasses? Have you tried an iPad Pro with 120Hz refresh + Night Shift? How much ambient light do you have when using the computer? Is the ambient light natural or artificial? If artificial, what spectrum/type?

I had the same problem. For me it was font antialiasing: eyes try to focus on the blurry text. After disabling the antialiasing I can stare at the screen for ages without any eye strain.

i was thinking if it wss reversible. so buy some cheap glasses online zenni. reduce the prescription. buy an eink reader to prevent flicker. stare out the window every 20 minutes for 20 seconds

Don't sit so close to the screen, it'll ruin your eyes!

Experiment with a different screen and ambient brightness level everyday till you find a combination that's most comfortable for your eyes. For me, it is keeping displays on their lowest brightness level + no bright white lights around. Been doing this from 2+ decades now, and spent hours daily in front of every kind of display including 45 Hz bulky CRT monitors. Only time I've had eye pain was when there were bright white ambient lighting around.
