If you can't enjoy a life without a deeper meaning, maybe you just don't value life enough ...
Keep going, and make it smart enough to realize life without helping people is without meaning.
Yes? Isn't making a dent in the universe what everyone is trying to do? What else is there in life? Just surviving until you die?
Thank you for sharing this! I’ve wrestled with existential questions my whole life. This is one of the best explanations for our existence that I’ve seen. Simple, and meaningful. I also love that this explanation also gives you a framework to live by. Meaning and purpose are arbitrary, but that’s really the value in them. You choose to make your life valuable. Would you really want it any other way?
I once read..."The ultimate purpose of life which is to keep alive is impossibe" ... so why bother??
We're mostly on the same page. But I think you got the question wrong - they more likely would like to know how HN users try to live a life which is meaningful (to themselves). That's the kind of meaning which does exist!
In my subjective opinion, I would say it’s probably not meaningful to you for whatever reason. Only you can know what’s meaningful to you, and this might be something that you need to discover. I find that a writing session can help (like 1-3 hour one time session), like write down what makes you happy, sad, annoyed, what you’re doing, what you want to do, and so on. It might give you a clue of what is meaningful to you, and how you can incorporate it into your life. From what I understand abo
Life has whatever purpose you give to it. That's it.
It gives a meaning to your life, if work or saving the world is not doing it.
Truly accept the meaninglessness of life. Then choose a meaning for yourself. Here’s a good one: help reduce the amount of suffering in the world. Millions of people around the world are in a constant state of suffering (poverty, homelessness, war, mental issues, etc.); they’re not lucky enough to have their fundamental needs met in order to contemplate the meaning of life. Help just one of them to have a better life (donate, volunteer, mentor, ...). It shouldn’t be too hard; look around you.
