Popular vote disagrees with this.

jasonlotito Jul 6, 2022 View on HN

In polls they don't, but in practice, the majority voted for this outcome.

strey Mar 22, 2008 View on HN

Apparently the voters disagree.

maxerickson Jun 24, 2016 View on HN

Lots of people didn't vote, so leave won even though only 37% of the population voted that way.

tzs Feb 2, 2025 View on HN

If 49.8% of the vote is the people speaking clearly, then what do you call the 50.2% of the vote that did not vote for this?

dreen Jun 24, 2021 View on HN

It was a very close vote, far from a clear winner. Some people want it. I believe far less than 50% nowdays.

jospoortvliet Nov 4, 2016 View on HN

he didn't mean attendance but percentage of votes for the winner.

notahacker Jan 3, 2019 View on HN

Because 52% of people voted for it, and apparently any future votes on the subject would be "undemocratic".

edna314 Jul 25, 2020 View on HN

With less then 50% actually voting.

Frenchgeek Dec 7, 2015 View on HN

Nobody got 50% of votes, so no, they didn't.( and with about half of registered voters not participating, it can still change easely )
