The keyboard is one problem, but there are others. My secondary machine, a 2014 13'' retina MBP, started having battery problems. Went to an official repair service (Apple does not fix stuff here in Mexico). To replace the battery I would have to replace the whole top panel of the machine (keyboard, trackpad, etc) which costs like $600 USD. Apple would in turn buy the piece removed from my computer and lower what I had to pay to $350 USD.$350 to replace a battery is still ridiculo
Only apple users can justify a 3 week motherboard replacement! It's a 10 minute operation on a well designed laptop.
Is there anything that can be replaced on a MacBook?
I still don't believe you, because I have an experience of repairing MBP too. In my case it was damaged keyboard. They decided to replace entirely that half of the notebook. It was surprising approach and price was high, but still lower than price of the new MBP with the same CPU/RAM/SSD characteristics.
My Late 2013 MacBook Pro 15" broke down last month (wouldn't start). I didn't want to go through the setup of a new laptop, so I took it to Apple store. Got a new screen, new chassis, new screen, new keyboard, new logic board (I think). Same SSD, all my data was intact.Total cost: $700. This MacBook is 6 years old and it was totally worth it.
my gpu was failing and they did a full replacement of the motherboard and replaced the battery because it was out of spec for 300$ flat-fee out of warranty repair. Not sure what the conditions of that were, maybe it required to have a bootable mac. The few times I have needed to repair my macs it has been quite painless.
what about potential repairs? Or are you not using a MacBook?
I think it’s the default policy. My rMBP from 2012 started to have battery issues and I got a $300 quote for replacement that included a new top car.Got the $80 battery from ifixit and replaced the battery relatively easily. It did have me pour generous amounts for aceton (nail polish remover) into my MacBook to unglue the battery though, was happy that everything still worked after.
I have a disassembled laptop in my garage after a failed attempt to replace the battery on my 8 year old MacBook. Apple no longer offers repairs nor is there anyone else in the area I could find to do it. I replaced my wife’s (10 year old) battery a few months prior to attempting mine: hers required a few screws and was done in about 5 minutes. Mine required disassembling the whole computer dissolving the adhesive on the old battery and replacing then reassembling. If you’re going to plan on hav
I can replace the keyboard in my Thinkpad myself. Who apart from Apple can replace the (flawed) keyboard in new the MacBook Pro?
