I, too, speak ridiculously fast. People laugh at me and some (a lot of) people have problems understanding me. As much as I try, as soon as I am not paying attention I speak at the same pace again. Did you manage to slow down your speech consistently?
I have a sort of similar problem with stuttering. I tell people I stutter, and no one really believes me because it I don’t stutter in most common situations. But I get stuck on certain combinations of sounds when my brain is sort of working faster than I can talk. I often have to stop trying to say the word and pick a different one. It’s quite maddening especially when being precise is important.
How about speaking faster (or slower)?
This sort of thing often doesn't work for me because, well, hmmm.Because I have to pause in the middle of a sentence sometimes to, ah,um. . . gather my thoughts.I'm looking forward to when the AI is smart enough to know that I'm just a slow speaker when I'm using voice search or whatever.
Sounds like you did too much talking. :)
Wow, that's incredible. Do you find it frustrating talking to actual humans now? I'd imagine it feels like they're speaking in slow motion.Edit: Hah, just saw your post on talking faster to other people who have the same audio skills.
I used to talk fast. I made an effort to speak more slowly because people didn't understand me, and now I just think slower, which doesn't seem all that great.
Your written English is excellent. You are underestimating your skills, I think. Is there a world in which you could simply pause and plan out your words before speaking? Westerners won’t mind. Elon Musk often pauses noticeably in interviews when he’s discussing something controversial or novel, for example. I retrained myself how to speak in my 20s and went through a similar process.
I feel like this advice could also somewhat apply to your manner of speaking. I'm a pretty fast speaker, and I've noticed that when I try my best to go slower, I understand what I'm trying to say better, I figure out gaps in logic and errors in the sentence while speaking, instead of after, and I get the message across better. And when I'm giving an impromptu speech of some sort, if I slow down and think about every sentence I say, the sentences stitch themselves together in
If talking very fast in a way packed with information isn't working, have you considered changing that? Perhaps it's very hard for others to deal with.
