what do gas prices have to do with it?

beervirus Jul 1, 2020 View on HN

Part of it has got to be based on gas prices. I pay under $2 per gallon in Texas. In Europe, you might be paying 4 times that amount.

This is about the price difference between oil as commodity and petrol at the gas station.

Wouldn't this be hindered a bit by the gas prices?

bgnn Apr 25, 2025 View on HN

why can't we just tax the gas at the pump? this is, at least, what I'm used to in Europe.

Gas should be more expensive in the USA. Sounds like a good idea.

vaksel Oct 27, 2010 View on HN

we could if we charged the same $4-6 bucks per gallon that it costs in pretty much any other country

princevegeta89 Nov 1, 2022 View on HN

Yeah, this happens when you gouge gas prices from 3.5 bucks to 7 bucks for a gallon (Bay Area reference)

Cost, the article says approx 50-85c more per gallon.

Some places are pricier than the gas prices you're assuming.
