Is it really true that they are not allowed on play store because it interferes with googles business model ?

Conveniently Google can use this to justify banning installs from unofficial stores.

That should be something that doesn't allow the app to get onto the Play store, but Google apparently allows it.

NoPicklez Mar 24, 2024 View on HN

You say that, but the Google Play store doesn't allow you to do that either, so do they not have my best interests in mind?

Nonsense. Google is very large and you'll find situations like this in any large sample size. There's really not much more to be said; on the whole google works great for most people. Maybe this particular case has a legitimate grievance (in which case it's a false positive but many FPs exist at scale) or maybe they're opening up programmable interfaces in a way that was never going to fly with play store.

This is malfunctioning ai in action. Also curious if it is an option for all of these banned app makers to team up and sue google.

Android developers (iOS developers too) are randomly and arbitrarily purged from the Play Store (and Apple App Store, respectively) with reckless abandon. Even though sideloading is a thing on Android, if Google bans you, you're basically put out of business. There are literally dozens of these cases you can find on the Internet.Google often does this with no warning, and no real process for appeal unless an Android blog like Android Police decides to write an article about it. Bad press

They are weaponising their Account service to protect profits from playstore and Android. Does this not run afoul of any laws?

The application seems to be back in the Play Store. It is a shame that Google can pull these kinds of behaviour without any repercussion...

I'd put an asterisk on "totally", considering the app is still available for Android[0]. They acted quickly when their hand was caught in the cookie jar, they didn't suddenly grow a conscience.[0] - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.and...
