let's be real. nobody is crushing anybody in development speed with webpack. Use rollup esbuild or vite

webpack hate is so unjustified now days. It's far superior and stable than these toy build tools and setups.

Are you claiming that everyone should stop using Webpack and Rollup too?

Can't do much about NPM, but webpack is legacy now, no reason to use it for new projects. You can use esbuild if you just want compiling, or vite (which uses esbuild and roll up) if you want compiling + bundling + front end assets. It Just Works™. It's very fast, minimal effort, and vastly less complicated than webpack ever was. This is first time since we first started transpiring that I have found JavaScript tooling to actually be maintainable production quality and not a brittle hac

tl;dr Try parcelI've had some really horrible experiences with webpack. When I first started with it, it was daunting. Seriously, just look at the docs, it's pages upon pages of complex behavior. Some of it fairly unintuitive. It took me days to dive in, get used to it and kind of know what I was doing, and then promptly forget everything about I knew over the months/years.Everytime I have to dive into the webpack related config, I basically set aside a whole and feel a

The performance difference between webpack and esbuild is like night and day

Can we ever get rid of webpack? First it was grunt, then gulp, now webpack. Will we ever be able to just write vanilla js again?

avrionov Jan 12, 2022 View on HN

Yes, I'm using webpack. Moving to esbuild will be non-trivial amount of work.
