Not sure why you're downvoted, because that sort of populism is exactly what Trump said and ran on. Like most things he said, it's also still 2 weeks away.
> Declaring it a 'coup' is as silly as when Trump lost in 2020 and declared it a 'rigged election.'At this point any discussion on HN about Trump delivering his campaign promises (which got him a resounding electoral victory) seems to be filled with elitist rage ("Every single IT board I'm on") and thus is just proving his point. This is the blowback for the medical overreach of the covid years, for the 1984-esque re-labeling of open gender- and race-ba
Isn't that how Donald Trump got elected?
You failed in the past election and Trump became president because millions of people disagree with your narrative, no matter how long of a report on hacker news that you write!
> this kind of attitude is exactly what got Trump electedNot really seeing the connection here
People swung over to Trump because they're sick of this shit and want change. He's offering change, bad though it may be. Neoliberalism was strongly repudiated this election, and now the Democrats have to actually swing left if they want to win again. Saying "you just think things are bad, but look at line go up" stopped working
Remember, Donald Trump was elected because people want change. Most people are aware at this point that the system is rigged, and are looking to change it. It's unclear currently whether populism or socialism will win in the long run, but don't lose hope yet.
Maybe Trump was right. (Democrats start your downvoting.)
Exactly! Yet another politician who goes against common sense and does the exact opposite of what he said on the campaign trail. And people wonder why Trump won?!?Edit: Are there people on HN who'll downvote anything with the string "Trump" in it? Not that I care about downvotes (it's just an int in some volatile memory on some server), but I'm surprised people would downvote without even reading.
Maybe it’s not Trump.Maybe the people elected Trump in a historic GOP win with demos that Reagan wouldn’t have won with… and Zuck sees the writing clearer than most? The way you put it leaves out the cause and only gets the effect.
