Catholic and other churches have a lot of money. Why not tax them?
Churches are some of the wealthiest organizations out there:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wealthiest_organizatio...And let's get serious, some "church" related activities are hardly not-for-profits:https://www.youtube.
"churches spend part of the money on social assistance"As a vehicle for proselytizing. Organizations that are dedicated to social assistance have reporting requirements that churches don't. It's not transparent at all what churches spend their money on. It's a murky government-sponsored wealth redistribution scheme. Not unlike the financial industry in that regard.
Joining a church requires money as most Christian churches expect or in some cases mandate a tithe. Furthermore, why should you be forced to join a religious organization that may have beliefs you don't agree with to get basic survival assistance? While my particular church doesn't require any particular beliefs or even that you're a member to receive basic necessities from our pantry, most churches I've been to are judgemental and terrible places full of people who go there
churches don't get billions annually in government funding, they are treated like any other charity in terms of donations
They are stealing from everyone. Churches do not pay taxes. This is supposed to be contingent on not engaging in politics and actually acting like a non-profit.
The church asked for it. Other churches don’t. It’s a taxation-as-a-service scheme. Atheists and many religious denominations are unaffected.
Both are wrong. Churches should prove they act as non-profits just like any other organisation. Because especially in the US a lot do not exactly oppose profits.
Yes because Churches don't have enough money already.
Do churches not use US infrastructure and services? We are implicitly taxed on behalf of churches.
