I ended up buying a 2015 one, which was described as one of the best laptops ever in reviews [1]. Plus, I got a slightly used one for a good price (waiting for it to ship).I'm pretty sure I'll get many years of happy usage out of it (it replaces a 7 year old Mac mini, althought I did upgrade memory/ SSD on that one). The only thing I may end up missing is the touch bar, which does not get much love here, but could turn out useful. Do you develop stuff that needs to support to

Same, bought an M1 16" MBP w/the Max chip, basically all the best specs. Unless there's a titanic shift in performance I probably won't be buying any new laptops for a while.

You should give the new MBP a try (the version without the touchbar, of course). It's the best laptop I've ever used by a long shot.

2011 MBP for me. Everything since has felt like a downgrade.

I loved my 2015 MBP too.I recently replaced it with a used MBA M1, 16GB, 2TB.It's insane how much faster it is, how long the battery lasts and how cool and silent it is. Completely different worlds.

I feel so left behind with an M1 MacBook. Is that on purpose? Am I supposed to feel shame and upgrade to M{LATEST}?

MacBook Pro 15" 2018.I was in a similar situation as you. And I looked at the alternatives but came back to Apple. I upgraded from a 2012 model. It has taken me about 6 months to get used to the keyboard but other than that it is a truly excellent machine.

I just replaced my 13' mid2012 MBP with a 12' 2019 MBP. Newer software, Spectre updates and driving my Thunderbolt monitor was getting too much for the 7 year old machine which overheated and slowed it down to a crawl whenever things moved fast on the screen. My old Thunderbolt monitor is now augmented with a Dell UHD monitor + CalDigit dock which cost together roughly the same. The new MBP is driving both with ease. My desk cabling is as clean as before with the added advantage that I

I doubt Apple can ever make as good a machine as the 2015 retina MBPs. I specifically requested one from work (only one with it my coworkers longingly look at my ports) and have a personal one also for development. They day I change jobs and my personal one dies, I'm with OP, no more MacBooks for me!

I replaced my 2019 Macbook Pro 13" i5 16gb/256gb, with an M4 Pro 48gb/1TB 16". It just wasn't worth it anymore, it would stall opening some large files, the fans would spin up for inexplicable reasons, the screen was mid... it was just barely serviceable for my needs and wasn't worth being so frugal about anymore. Yes technically I could use something from the 80s to write text files if I wanted to most of the time, and I'm somewhat anxious about the possibilit
