Buy MIELE, those survive for decades.

Maybe our family have just been lucky with the brands we pick, but I definitely haven't found this... My Electrolux fridge has been 100% solid for over seven years now, which I bought because my parents had had one for eight or nine years at the time (which is still going). My Bosch Series 8 front-loader washing machine has also been a tank, same age, no signs of anything going wrong, same story - I bought it because a friend had had a similar model for years, theirs is still going to...

the washing machine and drier we just purchased was much worse than the older model, this was due to planned obsolescene would be my guess. the salesman was quite honest about it: "they don't build em like they used to, nowadays they only last about 8 years". the older models could last more than 10 or even 20 years.this newer model wasn't better in any way that i could appreciate. sure it had a bunch of useless apps attached to it and the brochure was filled to the bri

there are no "good ones" because "luxury" appliances are basically the same as the cheap ones with a nicer finish or luxury brand nameask ANY appliance repair person...they would howl at the comments herethey've told me that people who think Bosch or Miele are "good" are just remembering what they were like twenty years ago and today they are just as likely to fail as Kenmoreask ANY appliance repair person, don't listen to HN on topics like this

My Miele dishwasher has totally failed less than 5 years old. Not worth the expensive price. Probably fixable but requires a multi-hundred-$ relay. I haven't fixed it because of my time cost (such a hassle).Previously bought a much cheaper dishwasher for my previous house that is still going strong. I found a geeky person on the sales floor that dealt with dishwasher returns and asked his advice for buying a reliable one: his advice seems to have been solid. I recommend trying this appro

I've been happy with my Electrolux fridge (it's only seven years old but literally zero maintenance in that time and it's still working like a champ), which I bought because my parents were happy with theirs which they'd bought five or six years before I got mine. Theirs is still going well too.My washing machine is a Bosch series 8 which has also been really good, same age, no problems.

My advice, prepare to be disappointed whatever you buy. The state of modern appliances is a dismal landscape of bare minimum functionality and corner cutting. We tried to avoid the garbage tide by thinking "you get what you pay for" and paid a lot expecting a better outcome. Ha! The Miele dishwasher we got didn't last 5 years. Turns out the fancy German engineering does not help with reliability but with creating overcomplicated designs with more moving parts. The d/w

Numatic[1] has always been my vacuum of choice. The best part is you can get spares. Hose cracks? £12 for a new one. Wheel breaks? £8 delivered.I bought expensive high end Miele's (washer and dryer) but they broke within 6 years and getting spares was crazy expensive and limited to just a couple places. The discussion here has revolved around paying more for better quality but something the repair tech opened my eyes too when my stuff failed is simply planning for failure.Others h

Miele and Bosch are the only brands I'll rely on for "white goods". As far as I can tell, most other (european) brands are owned by Electrolux, and all built to fail the day after the warranty expires. My toaster is a Dualit - pricey, but very reliable, and very repairable. My coffee grinder is a manually-cranked burr grinder made of aluminium. There's nothing to fail (and I don't mind cranking for a minute in the morning). My flat-screen is a Panasonic that used t

It seems to me that most appliances are essentially disposable these days.I'm considering Speed Queen for the laundry because they have a solid warranty and proclaim to be built to last.
