Thanks. Looking into this it does look like most of their employees speak English, while I was considering people who don't speak English; it may be a tougher sell

Like not speaking the local language of any country : won't work in the long term.

This practically excludes everyone who doesn't speak English as their native language. Depending on what business he's into this can be a serious handicap for recruitment.

You'd be surprised how many people have no idea about English and they are pursuing development career. Successfully even. There are companies where you can consider yourself lucky if half of your team speaks English.

Of course, YC could also have people that can speak other languages then only English. Like German, French, Spanish etc To me, it also sounds like a lack of wanting to communicate with people/Founders less versed in American English.

You are comparing different environments. Inside a startup or a multinational it will obviously be quite common. But you can't expect low level bureaucrats from a transportation company to start speaking english when it is not required to perform the job.

Normally, yes, but their first language doesn't seem to be English. Might be reason enough to temper things a bit.

If you don’t have the necessary language skills, perhaps you should work in your own country?
