There is still the language barrier. Not everyone speaks English.
This practically excludes everyone who doesn't speak English as their native language. Depending on what business he's into this can be a serious handicap for recruitment.

You'd be surprised how many people have no idea about English and they are pursuing development career. Successfully even. There are companies where you can consider yourself lucky if half of your team speaks English.
Of course, YC could also have people that can speak other languages then only English. Like German, French, Spanish etc To me, it also sounds like a lack of wanting to communicate with people/Founders less versed in American English.
You are comparing different environments. Inside a startup or a multinational it will obviously be quite common.But you can't expect low level bureaucrats from a transportation company to start speaking english when it is not required to perform the job.
Normally, yes, but their first language doesn't seem to be English. Might be reason enough to temper things a bit.
If you donβt have the necessary language skills, perhaps you should work in your own country?
