Speaking of D&D, it's possible for LLMs to act as the Dungeon Master
I just asked chatGPT if it could act as game master for a text-based rpg and it says "sure" and proceeded to start the story telling. Amazing.
In other words, create something like an rpg dungeon master does, and feed it to an LLM to execute?
Maybe look at what AI Dungeon has done.
AI-Dungeon is trained on previous played sessions, IIRC. It's pretty limited to generating any new outputs if players haven't previously fed it in (but I could be mistaken).
I asked ChatGPT to be my dungeon master for a tiny text-based dungeons&dragons game. It took a bit of prompt engineering (it would initially believe me if I unilaterally said I won dice rolls and even the whole game). The result was pretty astonishingly good.
Is it me or are they proposing making LLMs play text adventures?
Interactive LLM Powered NPCs, is an open-source project that completely transforms your interaction with non-player characters (NPCs) in any game!
You can get pretty similar behavior on AI Dungeon. You can alter any characters or setting with the right text prompt. Although the AI will promptly forget the plot after a few turns.
This already exists - I believe AI Dungeon is what you're looking for.
