The cluster discusses particle-based simulations of fluid dynamics, debating their accuracy, realism compared to real fluids like water, viscosity, friction, and traditional methods like Navier-Stokes equations.

Fluid dynamics can be counter intuitive.

Reminds me of how liquids behave in Starbound.

Is there such a thing as non-viscous fluid?

thaumasiotes Aug 23, 2019 View on HN

That's fluid dynamics for you. :-/

It only works for some idealized continous fluid. Not for actual water, which is made up of a large but finite amount of molecules.

Looks like fluid dynamics / turbulence to me

Key phrase: "in some sense". I mean clearly, yes, it looks fluid-ish to a layman, so in some sense it does simulate a fluid. But as soon as you dive into a tiny bit of detail, no, this violates those equations at basically every iteration.

Knowledge of fluid dynamics, on the other hand... :-)

Thought this was a framework for fluid dynamics :(

It appears to be some sort of fluid simulation.
