Chrome OS and Android merger please?

pjmlp Jul 14, 2021 View on HN

Google wants Web == ChromeOS, it is their Windows, naturally they want it to succeed.Android and Fuchsia are also ways to achieve it.Chromium lacks lots of relevant features that most users actually want from Chrome.

Isn't google merging chromeOS and android anyways?

remir Aug 20, 2016 View on HN

I think Google is working toward the consolidation of all their platforms, like Microsoft did with UWP on Windows 10.You can run Android apps on some Chromebooks but it doesn't feel optimal. I wouldn't be surprised if both Android and ChromeOS were replaced by "Fuchsia" eventually. You could have a single platform for mobile phones (including VR/AR), desktop, IoT (replacing Brillo), server, etc...

ChromeOS is Linux in name only, just like Android. Google just needed a kernel and a functional low level stack. They can switch to Fuchsia in the near/medium future and most user would probably not notice a thing.

No, this is Android taking over Chrome OS (embrace and extinguish). Fuchsia is unlikely to have a big future ahead of it.

Google wants ChromeOS to eventually replace Android. It's cloud vs native, not Touch vs Keyboard and Mouse, and until cloud based becomes acceptable everywhere, which is what Google is betting on, they will continue to work on Android.
