Yes, the submitter broke the HN guidelines by editorializing the title. On the other hand, the article's official title is uninformative. So I replaced it with the sentence from the article that most seems to describe its content (shortened to fit 80 chars). If anyone can suggest a better title, I'll change it again.
I've updated the title to something less sensationalist and more representative of the article's content.HN does have a policy of using the original title from the submitted article, unless it is misleading or linkbait, and we try to be rigorous in enforcing it.Users can help us by emailing us ([email protected]) when they see a case where a title seems to be misleading or linkbait.
Editorialized titles like that break the HN guidelines: "Please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorialize."https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
the title has been editorialized, HN posts are required to use the title as it appears on the submission.
The HN guidelines call for changing titles that are misleading or baity. That one was baity, so we replaced it with representative language from the article body.Generally we err on the side of preserving articles' original titles and favoring authors above everyone else! But not when the title breaks that guideline.https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
So... you editorialized the title in order to get some traction? I hate to be that guy, but the HN guidelines ask not to do that> please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorializeI should have checked the real article title, it’s much more reasonable. I see that it has been changed here, now.
Unless it is misleading or linkbait, please use the original title on HN. This is in the site guidelines:https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
Please don't editorialize titles like this. It's against the site guidelines, and accounts that do it eventually lose submission privileges."Please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorialize."https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
From the HN guidelines: “…Otherwise please use the original title, unless it is misleading or linkbait; don't editorialize.”
