Chrome was already tracking your users anyway...

Honest question: does Chrome share any data with Google, assuming you turn the right switches off?

olliej Apr 25, 2023 View on HN

is this any different from chrome “leaking” the sites you visit to Google?

ProAm Mar 13, 2019 View on HN

Anything you do in Chrome is reported to google. Not necessarily the data, but the meta-data.

Nooo, google wants you to think you are in private browsing mode so you share more secrets with them. They will just collect it all no matter what you do.

Rickasaurus Mar 16, 2013 View on HN

They must be selling your info. Just look at the Chrome access: "Access your data on all websites" and "Access your tabs and browsing activity"

rezistik May 30, 2019 View on HN

Why? Genuinely, if you're using Chrome shouldn't you expect that they can see your browser history?

Privacy is not a goal of Google chrome.

Google runs both Chrome and Analytics. And they do not warn explicitly that other Google products may store the history even in the private mode. Which some may interpret that Google lies when claiming about their private mode. So the case may have merit in theory.

I think the parent comment was because Chrome does its own user tracking and reporting to Google.
