"why doesn't my country just let me stomp all over the rights of people that don't want to live like me"

slim Dec 1, 2022 View on HN

it’s not like the US owes it to anyone to just let anyone live there just because they’d like to you sure of that ?

what you're missing (are you american?) is that most countries generally don't make the distinction between their own people and others. laws typically apply to everyone.

Is it better if they are not your own citizens?

Some westerners don't identify strongly with a specific country. I am one of those. We might consider the "good" of "all" people above the good of our country. When that is your mindset, voting for policies that favor your own country, your own well-being can in fact feel wrong, if it is at the cost of other people's well-being.

Not everything is about your country

You fail to understand the insult because you don't value liberty and individualism. When you say "it's their country" it is misleading. It's as much theirs as it is the other's person who lives next to them and thinks visas and passports are bullshit. My country doesn't belong to me any more than the other person. Why should I and not the other person decide who can visit?

You are talking as if every country will accept you with open arms to become their citizen.

Care to elaborate? As a patriot I think it is more disgusting to have no consideration for my fellow countrymen.

Mean why? Staying in a foreign country is a privilege not a right.
