Why can't people just ignore stuff they don't like and leave people alone. :-(
I don't think it is extreme, I simply choose not to surround myself with people who find me distasteful. Seems like the ideal solution for both of us.

maybe they want to avoid dealing with folks with aggressive attitudes like yours, and find life more pleasant dealing with more rational, level headed people or no one.
You're missing a key point. These are unsolicited comments from strangers in public places. To not associate with them I would have to stop going out in public.
Few people want to associate with others who trash talk them.
Aversion to interacting with people who seem dissimilar to yourself is a behaviour worth changing.
People will dislike you arbitrarily anyway. Can't get around that it seems in my experience, but maybe I'm bad at laying low
