You probably don't want a long range EV then?
We have a plug in hybrid with a 30 mile electric range and a charger at home. We rarely put gas in the car except for trips. A 300 mile range EV is unnecessary for most everyday use. 100 miles is more like it. Leave out 2/3 of the batteries and give us a better price.
considering how paltry electric vehicle range is...
Electric is more efficient/cleaner than that. You might not get the same range, but realistically, few people drive that far without stopping (biological needs, taking a break, etc), so that provides time for fast-charging.
There is an entire, large, class of people for whom 300 miles range is more than adequate to cover a regional trip, if there is a place to charge the car overnight (e.g. at the hotel parking). Anything further is a plane ride + car rental anyway, so it's not a big deal. Your use case differs. To think this matters to a statistically significant group of people is merely logical fallacy.
they are already driving them, they seem to have about the range. you can read about this in tesla newsgroup sites, like tmc.
300-400km range is impractical?
It's not a fair comparison to look at a vehicle that has less than 100 miles of range and call it bad for road trips. That car is only meant for commuting. Clearly you will spend a lot of time charging such a small battery with a slow charger. The way to do a longer drive with an electric car is to have several hundred miles of range and use DC fast chargers.
These cars have ranges of 300-400 miles or more though. Tough to go that distance in a single trip without traveling through a populated area or using an interstate highway.
I wake up with ~250 miles range every day, I wouldn’t call that horrible.
