When I moved a few years ago and had to look for a new doctor, new patient appointments were all at least 8-9 month waits. We regularly have to wait 1-2 months even as established patients. Due to these extreme waits, we end up going to Urgent Care clinics for routine things that we used to just go to our family doctor for. This is in the USA.
Many family doctors are like this, I think they want to minimize their work and many simply don't have the experience necessary. Would recommend you find a doctor at a bigger institution that wants to be there.
I have relatively good health insurance from my (USA) employer and my doctor visit still feels like a trip to the DMV. Actually worse because I have to schedule them many weeks in advance. New Patient appointments in my area are currently backlogged 4 months out. When I finally get there, it’s clear I’m on a conveyer belt where I get a 5 minute chat with an actual doctor at the very end of the assembly line. Even things that are clearly not urgent (for dermatologist &
You have to wait weeks to be seen by a family doctor?
"make an appointment for several months for now or get treatment this week" is maybe a better explanation.your GP is good if you have a long term medical issue you want to ask about, less so if you think you've just gotten injured or sick in some way.
Just open Doctolib and tell me it's the same when looking for any kind of doctor. The difference in waiting time is 3 months, bare minimum.
Next time you see your GP ask what their typical workload involves. I doubt the remote doctor would even be needed in 90% of cases!
That's how I'm oftentimes serviced when visiting the doctor.
Is this in the US? Because i can’t fathom just being able to casually drop in to visit a doctor like this. Any time I need to talk to a doctor, I have phone tag with their understaffed receptionist for a few days, then we set up an appointment 4-6 months in the future.
