You said Github prices were too expensive. Gitlab can be self-hosted for free with unlimited repositories.
Host your own, go to BitBucket or pay. Github sets their prices so they can make money, I'm sure if they could work the revenues they'd do a cheaper plan, but as they've yet to do it (despite BitBucket offering unlimited private repos) I'd assume they favour making money over being popular.
You like github, you just don't want to pay them?
GitHub is free, the repo owners are not the customer.
Just seems like a competent GitHub serves the job better, at lower cost...
Github costs money, Bitbucket gives me the same thing for free. Usually I use Bitbucket for private and if I open source something move it to Github.
What's wrong with a github account? Give them some love. Their private option is cheap. Over all once you start using github it's hard to go any other route anyway.
Gitlab has private repos for free and the service is imho on par with github
Gitlab is self hostable for free, hosting GitHub is very expensive. I'm happy to see anyone breaking github's monopoly, and gitlab has been around longer then the other open source code forges afaik
If you want unlimited private repositories, just use bitbucket instead. It's free instead of $7 a month.
