Because we have requirements for driving cars. Its not easy to get a driving license, ppl know how to drive. In US its “hey have you seen a car in your life, here have those keys”
I currently drive a pickup - my first truck in the 25 years I’ve been driving. There’s no need for more stringent licensing - people just need to pay attention to the road and stop behaving like they’re on a formula 1 track. My soon to be 15 year old daughter has been learning to drive my pickup (crew-cab F-150) and has no difficulties at all driving it responsibly.
Its a weird analogy. Plenty of people have years of racing experience before they get their drivers license.
Would make more sense to also not be able to drive until 18/21
But people have to go through explicit training and licensing to be allowed to drive a car as well...
> I mean, to get a driver's licence, you also have to go through an extensive training and pass a test, including a test on the type of car you drive. Not necessarily. There are still people driving who essentially bought their drivers license without any formal training.
But if you understand how the system works and it seems not surprising that you will face tougher challenges. I am not sure in how far this is different from rejecting the notion that a driving license is necessary to operate a car. You can certainly learn how to operate one yourself and be really good at it. But if your are a car rental company and want to reduce your liabilities it seems reasonable (but probably not fair) to let only people with a driving license rent one.
Honestly, if cars were only invented in the last few years, it probably wouldn't be legal without extensive training and licensing
Requiring more skill to drive is not necessarily a bad thing.
Cars at least are less able to swerve unpredictably, and drivers have to complete training in order to be allowed on the road.
